“…Jesus, weary from His journey, sat down by the well…” John 4:6
The beautiful spectacle- the Son of God becomes all too human, gets weary, thirsty, and asks for a drink of water- also puts on display the majesty of generosity, and how God honors such.
Access to fresh water is considered basic right in the west. It is not so in many other places.
Economic conditions and other matters deprive many people around the world of access to fresh water. Time and energy consumed to fetch water directly affect their earnings. The result is an inescapable cycle of lacking for the less fortunate. Building a deep-water-well is an act of kindness that reaches lives in meaningful ways.
Sanma deep-water-wells have been a channel that brought in not only water, but a sense of unity among the community. A well of water makes the Gospel tangible and display the beauty and power of God’s abundance. They also illuminate the glory of the Gospel without uttering a word.
The Gospel of John records of a well which was a gift from Jacob. Generations had been past. God had not forgotten Jacob’s noble generosity. Jacob was honored as the well of water set the stage for a thirsty soul to meet the Water of Life, the Savior, Jesus. This is what happens when you allow your resources to glorify God.
Water is essential to life. Each well of water supplies the essential for a community.
