Sanma community education centers take education to the non-educated community.
It’s a grass-root level approach that is well suited to build up an underserved community with literacy and lifesaving information in a Christian atmosphere.
It’s a one classroom place where a local layperson teaches people to read and write the regional language. Bibles are used for the text.
CECs are also used for medical camps and prayer groups.
This format affords direct distribution of knowledge and training to develop people right where they are.
The target audience is receptive of the information because of the “neighbor teaching neighbor” style of the program.
CEC educators are locals with literacy and a passion to serve.
Sanma provides comprehensive training and educational supplies for the educator to teach his/ her neighbors.
CEC’s help people find ways to build better families.
They also recruit deserving candidates to receive means for supplement income.
Sanma has constructed CEC buildings in 19 villages.
At other places, the educators use venues such as house fronts to educate and empower their neighbors.
Here is a note we received:
We just don’t think anything about opening the bathroom cabinet to pull out personal hygiene products. Yet, it is a luxury millions of people don’t have. Many don’t even have a bathroom to begin with. Sanma Healthy Village mission should reach every one of those villages.”
