And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Romans 13:11
We must awake out of the sinful conditions that exist in our life. These conditions will keep us from being ready: living in the darkness of the present world; carnal slothfulness and negligence of spiritual duties; feelings of security that make one feel everything is all right when it is not; a spiritually dead attitude toward the Word and prayer; disinterest in the eternal welfare of one’s own soul and rewards that God has for it; lack of interest in the spiritual welfare of other souls.
If a person is awake, he will be filled with the bright shining light of God’s Word and watching for all of these attitudes when they crop up, and he will deal with them. A person who is awake is constantly burning with desire and expectation for the LORD’S return. This is proof that the Sun of Righteousness has arisen in the heart.
Hebrews 4:15-16 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
