Food and shelter in times
of trouble
Sanma
Feeding Program fights hunger and poverty
Calamities caused by fire, flood, or an outbreak of a disease can cause
people to become homeless overnight.
It was a simple fire accident in a slum village outside of Guntur city,
Andhra Pradesh, India that displaced some 4000 people overnight. Nearly all
of the 1100 huts that were stacked in that slum colony were burned down to
ashes. When a team of people arrived at the disaster site, it was a heart
wrenching scene. People did not have any food, no utensils, not a set of
clothes to change.
There was no source of clean water in the village which was one of the
reasons that the fire went out of control. The women in the village either
waited for the water truck that arrived once a day, or walked nearly a mile
to fetch water.
And some places, such as the slums and villages live in desperation every
day. Sanma needs your help to reach sites like this with relief, comfort,
and hope. Your tax deductible contributions to this work make that happen.
